puppet master

I am a puppeteer.

There is no need for puppet masters in the Northern Wilderness. It is cold all year round, the land is frozen and no grass grows. People and beasts struggling in the severe cold kill and devour each other. Survival is their only desire.

I'm not here to show off, but to beg for help.

Yunling is the border of the Central Plains. At the foot of the mountain is the last inn on the road, and if you go further, you will find a wasteland that is no longer prosperous and desolate.

I picked up a guy there.

He had a good complexion, and was spotless from head to toe in his white robe and cloak of snow-fox fur.

I simply call him Baiyi.

At that time, the white clothes were full of food and drink, but they had no money in their pockets to pay the bill. They were surrounded by the waiters in the shop, yelling and beating him. Obtrusive stains.

I felt sorry for the pure sleeve, and then met the eyes of Bai Yi through the gap of the crowd.

His eyes were neither embarrassing, panic nor rogue, but bright and transparent, as ignorant as a child.

The shopkeeper said to Bai Yi: "The fur color of your cloak is not bad, if you want to leave, you can use it to exchange money."

The snow fox grows on the ice fields of the northern wilderness, and it is rare and extremely difficult to hunt. The table of food eaten by white clothes is not worth even a tuft of fox fur.

But after hearing what the shopkeeper said, he actually raised his hand to untie the tie at the neckline, as if he readily agreed.

I finally couldn't bear to stop him, and told the shopkeeper, "I'll pay for him."

Beckoning, the elder brother walked up behind him, and took out the broken silver from the purse to give them.

The dissatisfied gaze of the shopkeeper made me feel like a light on my back, and when I left the inn, Bai Yi thanked me.

I asked him, "Are you going to the Northern Wilderness too?"

Bai Yi said: "No, I'm not 'going', but 'returning'."

Only then did I know that Bai Yi was from the Northern Wilderness.

On the road again, the white clothes followed closely. After passing Yunling, it suddenly became cold, and the sky and the earth seemed to be frozen.

When Bai Yi saw that my brother and I were still wearing single robes, he became very worried. He didn't know how many times he stopped me and asked, "Can't you tell me the purpose of your coming to Beihuang? Maybe I can help. It's so cold here. If you walk carelessly, you will freeze to death sooner or later."

I wanted to look back at the white clothes, but I glanced at my brother from the corner of my eye, and suddenly found that the shoulders of his robes were unraveled.

Of course my brother didn't notice it himself, he was always careless.

We stopped, with our backs to the wind behind boulders on the side of the road.

I dug out the needle and thread from the cloth bag at my waist, and my brother squatted down in front of me so that I could mend it for him.

Bai Yi was waiting for the answer. He watched me fly the needle and thread, and his eyes fell on the 28 mithril rings I wore on the joints of my ten fingers.

This is what puppet masters use to beg for food. It has been passed down from generation to generation, and each one has been polished smooth and shiny.

After the last stitch, my brother stood up. I leaned over and brushed his icy-stained corner of his clothes, and asked in white: "You should be able to tell, my brother has some problems."

Bai Yi was stunned, he glanced at my brother cautiously, then nodded softly and quietly, for fear of hurting someone's self-esteem by reacting too obviously.

It's so unnecessary, you say yes, brother.

I said to Bai Yi: "It's fine to tell you."
