Chapter 9
Chapter 9
Officer Takagi: Straight ball or change ball?
Jiang Gu left the front hall and followed his footsteps, but bumped into walls one after another in the infirmary and Akai's room. The footprints were finally broken in front of Akai's room door. He knocked on the door but no one answered. He wandered aimlessly in the deserted corridors, and decided to stamp out all the places around him that could smoke indoors. If he still couldn't find it, then he would talk himself into going back to sleep.
Most public facilities in the building are lit overnight, but that shouldn't include the kitchen.Did someone forget to turn off the lights? He walked suspiciously towards the depths of the restaurant where there was a faint light, and heard the rustling sound of paper bags being torn, and the metal tableware lightly hitting the porcelain. It seemed that some students who missed their meals were eating supper, so he pushed open the gap in the door almost without thinking.
Akai, who was leaning against the stainless steel stove, lowered his head and biting half of a baguette in his hand with his teeth, raised his eyes, and their eyes met.Jiang Gu was a little dazed, until Akai greeted him calmly (he could barely distinguish the inarticulate syllables as "Jun Jiang"), and then he slowly let go of the doorknob.People who miss their meals and have a lot of physical exertion are indeed right.
Jiang Gu breathed a sigh of relief.
"I didn't expect you to hide here and steal food." He walked over and leaned on the counter opposite Akai, but it was not too far away. He could reach the soup bowl beside Akai just by bending over.He brought it over and fiddled with it with a spoon. There was a layer of dark, unknown objects floating on the surface of the milky yellow instant corn soup, which made him want to sneeze immediately. "What's this? All black pepper?" he asked, frowning.
"To keep out the cold." The other party chewed the bread without changing his expression.
Jiang Gu wondered if he really still had a sense of taste: "I thought you had a great time cooking stew at Kudou's house every day."
Akai stretched out his left hand from under the wrapped blanket and flattened it towards him, the palm was cut across by a layer of gauze. "Don't get wet." He explained, and Jiang Gu caged the back of his hand, turned it slightly from side to side, and saw the injection needle hole on the vein of his forearm under the not-so-bright light. "Did you take the extended-release drug?" he asked. No matter how forbearable Akai is, after all, he walked for nearly three hours with an Omega in heat on his back. Moreover, the mountain road outside was muddy and slippery. He probably tied the other party tightly to his back with a climbing rope, and it was difficult not to be picked up.
"Yes," Akai withdrew his hand, raised his eyelids and glanced at him with a half-smile, "The effect of the medicine hasn't fully worked yet, so I can't stand you calling me."
Jiang Gu put the soup bowl into the sink with a "boom". "I'm hungry too, I'll leave after cooking the soup."
He thought Akai was getting in the way standing by the gas stove, so he asked him to find another place to stand with his baguette.Jiang Gu rolled up his sleeves and found plenty of vegetables in the refrigerator, as well as a small pot of stewed beef.Handling raw materials is a usual thing. He washes, cuts and cuts his hands and feet very neatly. After the continuous chopping sound, he throws the diced onions into the heated pan for frying, and then carrots, tomatoes, and basil. Leaves, tomato paste and water, cover and wait for water to boil.
He glanced back, expecting Akai to continue nibbling bread behind him or doing something else, but no.Akai had already untied the camel wool blanket on his body, revealing the black crew neck sweater he was wearing underneath. He looked at Jiang Gu's back thoughtfully, even if he was caught straight, he just blinked his eyes blatantly.
"What's the matter?" He asked knowingly, and when he turned his head to the left, Akai also turned to the left, as if determined to find his pupils.
"I'm thinking," he paused, lowered his eyes and glanced at the palm of his hand. This look was murderous, "how much do you know?"
Jiang Gu turned around and raised his eyebrows in surprise: "You asked Marianne to tell me?" He admitted it indirectly.Akai smiled, and the corners of his lips stopped at a just right arc that wouldn't make people think he was overly complacent.
"It's not necessary. I know Marian, and I understand your temper that breaks the casserole and asks the end." He responded quietly, "Only Marian can tell you that here. If I don't want you to know, I will let you know. I would have warned her before."
Jiang Gu snorted softly: "Is there anything else you don't want me to know?"
"If you still want to know many things about me, why don't you come and ask me?" He said noncommittally.God knows that Jiang Gu doesn't need him to answer another question with another question. He turned around and pressed his palm on the handle of the pot lid to wait for the water to boil. It was ready to move under his palm.
The water is boiling. He threw all the remaining ingredients into the pot, added seasonings, and turned to a low heat. With 5 minutes left, he set an alarm clock.
This is a long-delayed standoff. He and Akai, they seem to be arranged by fate to return to the same place again and again, and finally doomed. But Jiang Gu knows that he can choose a completely different direction every time, and it is the same today.
He didn't think he should go on.He was afraid that he didn't understand Akai, and he was also afraid that he knew him too well.He knows exactly what the possible consequences are, and the result is nothing more than loss or disappointment. But today he will choose to ask.
He put the spoon aside and turned to Akai. The other party's gaze was still glued to him.He waited, as if with an inexhaustible patience. So Jiang Gu wondered if he had been waiting.
"What are you waiting for?" He blurted out, his hands resting on the edge of the table on both sides of his body, feeling that he had to hold on to something firmly. "Waiting for your 'destiny' like the Russians do?"
Akai showed a puzzled look.So Jiang Gu simply relayed what Jessica had told him.Akai shook his head amusedly, saying that he didn't believe in destiny.
He was silent for a while, using it to organize his thoughts, but it made Jiang Gu wait till his palms sweated. Then he asked, "Do you want to know why in the past, or the present?"
Jiang Gu is unknown, so the speed of speech used to make up his mind is very rapid: "If you want to say it."
Akai looked at him deeply.
"Before I formally joined the FBI, I spent two years in the Air Force Special Forces. I think you must know." Jiang Gu nodded. "I was very young then, in my early 20s, only been in the US for a few years, and in the military, I had very little access to omega, and no one ever told me how they handled their hot spells. I guess it was all private. , I don't need to ask more."
"In the second week of being in the army, the officer suddenly entered our dormitory in the early hours of the morning. He said that an Omega is now entering a climax period, and asked us in a routine tone if anyone volunteered to temporarily mark him."
"I couldn't believe what I heard. But what was even more frightening was that all five of my roommates raised their hands without hesitation. Rather than responding to the request, I felt that they were steadfastly obeying." What order only I don't know. I stood among them and was the only one who didn't raise my hand. My superior also stared at me, the breathless pressure of those few seconds, I still remember it vividly .At the time I thought they were crazy, or maybe I was missing something, I couldn't be sure."
"But when one of us was chosen and the officer took him away, the rest of my roommates were visibly relieved. None of us talked about it, and went back to the Go to your own bed. They slept soundly in the second half of the night, and I didn't fall asleep all night. I don't think I can be assimilated into such a person, and I don't want to be such a person."
Furuya never imagined that Akai would be so honest. He listened quietly, and the answer gradually became clear. There is indeed a kind of measurable dedication in this world, which can make people ignore the essence of things, forget the difficulty of submitting against their will, and put their own choices on it regardless of the reason.Going with the flow makes life a lot easier.
"If you say this kind of thinking noble, it's belief; if you put it bluntly, it's just out of my personal likes and dislikes." He raised his eyes to look at Jiang Gu, and laughed disapprovingly. "So, all of the things I've been holding on to, maybe just because I don't want to tag someone I don't like."
Jiang Gu could hear clearly, the beat of his heart was slower and heavier than usual. "That was before. What happened after?"
Akai looked into his eyes. His pupils were spotless, they were obviously of a heavy and deserted color, but they were so hot that they seemed to scald his internal organs. His voice was low and gentle: "Later, it was you who insisted on not wanting Alpha."
It took him a few seconds to formulate the sentence, and another few seconds to understand it.
Jiang Gu couldn't move and couldn't speak. He breathed carefully, his chest almost ached. He looked straight at Akai, inspected him with his eyes, questioned him, trying to find even the slightest flaw, but Akai was impeccable.
With so many traceable signs, the ending he had been looking for finally hit him head-on.
The phone alarm clock rang, Jiang Gu was caught off guard, and his whole body trembled. He turned his back to turn off the fire, lifted the lid of the pot, and the heat of the Italian tomato soup steamed up with the aroma, making him more and more dizzy. He took the pot off the stove, and dawdled with the soup, filling two bowls before stopping. He was too busy to take care of himself, never thought that this was consuming and torturing Akai at the same time.
He was shocked by all the weak thoughts in his head, none of which made him feel more vulnerable than Akai wanted him.
Jiang Gu tidied up his expressions and emotions, turned around and handed one of the bowls of soup to Akai.He nearly knocked the bowl off when his fingertips met.
"Why don't you always misinterpret my meaning?" He swallowed a sigh urgently. "Just because I don't want an Alpha, does that mean I don't want a suitable mate?"
Just because he's not looking for an Alpha doesn't mean he's not looking for someone. And there are too many people he doesn't want in this world, and Akai is definitely not one of them.So he had to think about it... Is it true?
He never wanted Akai to mark him during the heat, and he hadn't lied to anyone or himself in all these years.
None of this had occurred to him before yesterday.Yesterday he firmly believed that the path he was walking was lonely but correct, yesterday he did not realize that Akai was always looking at him, yesterday his defense system had not yet collapsed; today he is falling inextricably; tomorrow he will lose all resistance strength.
He's teetering, and that's just the beginning.
The way love came to him was like a fever. At first it was just a few coughs, until he coughed until his ribs hurt, and his chest seemed to be cut into pieces. He began to have a high fever, shivering from the cold but sweating from the heat, the breath he exhaled was scorching hot, and his heart seemed to be burning, making him unable to breathe.Jiang Gu worries that his illness will never get better.
"Look at this." Akai stood beside him, bent down and brought the phone screen to his eyes.Jiang Gu tried his best to recognize what he said, but the other party was too close, and his forehead seemed to brush his bangs, Jiang Gu didn't even dare to turn his head casually. He shrunk his neck back.
Akai turned his head to look at him, with a narrow smile on the corner of his mouth. He did it on purpose.
Jiang Gu wanted to stare at him, wanted to push him away and get up to leave. But the smell of tobacco from the other party came over unscrupulously, and he felt like a young man in love, feeling that he was going to die in the next second.
Tomorrow his mind will not change, not any of the facts will change.Tomorrow he will go too far and never look back.He closed his eyes, feeling the looming fear and anticipation rush through his veins.
In the end, he will throw away his helmet and armor, and be caught without a fight, Jiang Gu thought in a daze.
