Chapter 327
Sam shot at it but before the bullet could even leave the nozzle of his gun.
This creature had left its position and appeared right behind Sam with its scythe sitting gently on his throat.
And only then did the bullet make contact with its previous location.
Sam was shocked at the absurd speed it just displayed but he wasn’t fazed as it tried to decapitate Sam; all Sam did was drop to the ground to avoid being decapitated and fire two more bullets but once again, the zombie disappeared out of sight.
There was no way that Sam could keep up, his eyes couldn’t even react and talk more of his body.
It was an impossible task and one would think the most logical thing to do in this situation was to retreat but Sam was far from rational.
"AMAZING!!!" Sam exclaimed, this felt like teleportation but that was absurd, such a thing couldn’t exist in this world so it had to be moving at high speed simply.
Sam knew that its speed could be used against it and that was exactly what he planned to do.
"Come out and play~" Sam said but the moment he completed this sentence, he felt a concussive force on his torso, the next thing he knew he was flying through the air as he slammed his back against the wall, resulting in a crater.
If this was a normal person, they would have been turned into artwork on the wall but Sam possessed far more durability but even this caused internal damage.
Sam felt blood escape the side of his lips before wiping it off, he had incurred some internal damage and he knew he couldn’t take more of it.
"Now that’s how you throw a punch..." Sam praised it as he slowly got to his feet but Sam did not understand that this was the most powerful thing he had faced in his life.
But why didn’t it use the scythe? It had a free hit and if it used the scythe instead of its fist then Sam would be dead so why didn’t it?
Sam looked around and noticed dents on the walls, this must have been made by its feet because it wasn’t there moments ago.
But Sam didn’t have any moment to examine his surroundings because the creature was on him again, appearing right in front of him but there was something different about it.
The speed wasn’t nearly as blinding as it was mere moments ago allowing Sam to move out of the way just in time.
"Wait... If it is alive then that means its stamina isn’t infinite," Sam thought to himself and it also showed signs that it lacked combat experience.
Maybe that was why it didn’t kill Sam, it wanted to learn from him and this gave Sam a fighting chance.
Sam knew it had to simply exhaust it and the best way to do that was with his gun as he tossed his pistol aside and equipped the assault rifle.
Sam also noticed that the tendrils in the walls didn’t try to attack him, he wondered why but this meant he could fight without a care in the world.
Sam fired his gun sporadically, originating from the creature’s focal point to the direction he thought the zombie would retreat in.
This didn’t land but Sam noticed something interesting, the zombie had blocked his attack.
He thought he had dodged it all together but that was false.
"Would you look at that?" Sam muttered with a wild grin before offloading another barrage of bullets but he wasn’t so fortunate this time.
Sam needed to reload the weapon but he knew this would create an opening so he bluffed like he still had a few more weapons but that didn’t matter.
In the blink of an eye, the creature appeared right in front of him and sliced his gun in half, rendering it useless.
Once again, Sam wondered why it avoided the killing blow when it had the chance as he quickly took a couple of steps back to create some distance between them.
"You’re a strange one," Sam muttered but the pink reflection was beginning to irk him so he took another pistol but this one only had six bullets and aimed it at the wall.
And without further ado, fired a shot but this was when things got interesting as the creature immediately appeared to block the bullet from colliding with the tendril-like glow in the wall.
"Oh my..." Sam muttered before pointing his gun in the opposite direction and shooting, once again the zombie blocked it.
Unknown to Sam, the glow of these tendrils was what was empowering the creature to be this strong, it was within its area of influence hence its abilities quadrupled.
It was a miracle that Sam could fight it in his current state because of the migraines that were ringing in his head, even now.
Sam realized that he couldn’t hit the zombie if he aimed directly but he could get it if he aimed towards the tendrils creating a huge weakness, this also made the creature realize that Sam was a threat it needed to get rid of.
It finally moved in with the killing blow but as stated earlier by Sam, it was slowing down and this allowed Sam to shoot his gun before it could reach him in the opposite direction, forcing the creature to abandon its plan to attack him to block the bullet from hitting the wall once again but to its surprise, it saw a knife in its chest, Sam had thrown it first towards the wall before firing the bullet, the bullet travels faster than the knife and the creature didn’t register the knife.
It was only reacting after it heard the sound of the gun.
"I’m getting a hang of this!" Sam exclaimed with a bright smile but blood began to drop from his nose.
He knew if he stayed here any longer, his brain would be fried and thus, needed to end this with his next move.

The fight in the tunnel raged on but Schneider and the remaining three of the infected humans were headed right towards Jason.
Schneider knew it was pointless bringing the dead because they couldn’t harm him, Jason wasn’t the same person he was a year ago.
He learned to use the Nexus to link with everything that consisted of Chronos, which were the zombies and temporarily take control of them to do as he pleased.
The variant in Jason was meant to be an insignificant fragment but it was the part of the hive mind that has Nexus and Jason had learned to use it even though he couldn’t use the full power of the fragment without turning into one of them
This was why he used it sparingly as in his fight against the horseman, he could use it for approximately 5-10 minutes on evolved zombies before the infection spread further.
But there was something that Jason had awakened during the timeframe, an ability that gave him the confidence to wage war against the main body of Chronos. This was why the commotion back in the tunnel didn’t attract anyone else.
That being was left there to protect Clementine and keep anyone or anything away from her until she successfully synchronized with the roots littered around the United States before extending to the next continent until the whole world was eventually consumed.
Jason knew that sending Sam would be the right bet as he acted as a decoy to draw Schneider and the rest out, making Sam’s probability of success at a reasonable rate because Jason shared a piece of his power with Sam.
This was how Sam was able to stop the zombies earlier, it bore a striking resemblance to the ability that Jason displayed when facing the horsemen even though the side effects were absent when Jason used it.
Even with all of this, it would be a miracle if Sam managed to get past his adversary but with Clementine in danger, this would serve as added motivation.
Sam was the only one that could stop her and he had to do it fast or all of this would be for naught.
Jason made the necessary arrangements, and Rachel and the people of the community were safe.
The bad eggs were being weeded out one by one and the final showdown was about to happen but would it be enough to give humanity a future?
Jason was laying it all on the line because he feared that he would cease being him by the time this was over and hoped Schneider’s body would give out if he pushed it far enough but there was something that worried Jason.
He wasn’t the only one that was aware of Schneider’s body reaching its limit, if Chronos was coming for him then it must be that it had a plan to bypass this weakness if it was confident enough to face Jason head-on.
"Sam, you must win," Jason muttered under his breath as he prepared for battle.
