Chapter 1906 - 1907: Comprehending the Heart Sutra

Chapter 1906 - 1907: Comprehending the Heart Sutra

The person who created the "Wuliang Heart Sutra" might have written it just because they were more familiar with it.

Just like people now, if they want to write something, they might write poems by Li Bai and Du Fu.

However, people nowadays aren't focused on how good these poems are.

It's well-known that Li Bai's poems are naturally good, but they look at how the person's calligraphy looks.

From the perspective of calligraphy, the Wuliang Heart Sutra is also quite ordinary. The main reason is that the person later known as the Infinite Old Ancestor wasn't trying to showcase their calligraphy.

His writing might be ordinary, but it expressed his inner feelings.

What he was thinking at the time, how the brush moved, where it was quick, where it was urgent, where it was slow.

This is also why it's called the Wuliang Heart Sutra, mainly because of the word "Heart."

Many ancient sages have gained insight from the Wuliang Heart Sutra, perhaps not from deciphering its secrets, but because their strength improved during the comprehension process.

While improving themselves, they gained inspiration from the Wuliang Heart Sutra to create some kind of Staff Technique or Cultivation Technique.

But the true meaning that the Infinite Old Ancestor wanted to convey, it's unknown if anyone truly understands.

Ling Zhenfei browsed through all the books in the cave but didn't find any that matched his thoughts.

The books were all studying the content of the Heart Sutra, without anyone paying attention to each word.

Perhaps it's the importance of the "Wuliang Heart Sutra," and no one holds it in their hands and touches the writing on the bamboo slips like Ling Zhenfei.

Now in this cave, there aren't any members from Wuliang Mountain, but if there were, they'd be furious to see Ling Zhenfei holding the Wuliang Heart Sutra in his hands.

However, it's because he held it in his hands that he could feel the uniqueness of the text on the bamboo slips.

It's also how he could sense the changes in depth, speed, and rhythm of the text.

Ling Zhenfei felt elated, perhaps he was paving a new path, and might truly discover something in it.

Thus, Ling Zhenfei spent his time studying each character, examining the calligraphy of the Infinite Old Ancestor, the brushwork, and the rhythm and depth of the text.

The more Ling Zhenfei studied, the more admiration he felt for the Wuliang Ancestral Master, as each character was so Xiao Sa.

Indeed, it was Xiao Sa, the Wuliang Ancestral Master was likely in a state of excitement, perhaps from drinking too much, or having just broken through a certain Realm.

And thus, on this wave of excitement, he wrote the "Wuliang Heart Sutra."

Initially, Ling Zhenfei used his heart to comprehend each character multiple times, then he began to use his hand to mimic the movements in the air, to understand the mental state of the Infinite Old Ancestor at the time of writing.

At this moment, Ling Zhenfei realized that someone had already recorded the "Wuliang Heart Sutra" on the stone wall of the cave.

Ling Zhenfei was very shocked; the "Wuliang Heart Sutra" on the stone wall was nicely written but lacked the brushwork and intention felt by the Infinite Old Ancestor at the time.

Ling Zhenfei looked at the characters on the stone wall and found they were carved out with a knife.

Thinking of this, Ling Zhenfei also took out his Tang sword.

The stone wall of the cave had only that one section of stone carvings, and the rest of the wall became Ling Zhenfei's canvas.

Ling Zhenfei wanted to use the Tang sword as a pen, treating the wall as paper, writing the "Wuliang Heart Sutra" entirely according to the feeling of the Wuliang Ancestral Master.

Ling Zhenfei held the "Wuliang Heart Sutra" in his left hand, the Tang sword in his right, and began to carve on the wall.

Ling Zhenfei wrote slowly, calculating where to apply force, where to pause, where to speed up, all akin to the Wuliang Heart Sutra.

Ling Zhenfei didn't know how long he had been writing, but eventually, he completed the "Wuliang Heart Sutra."

After writing the entire Wuliang Heart Sutra, Ling Zhenfei understood the changes in the Infinite Old Ancestor's mental state and gained many insights.

He placed the bamboo slip of the "Wuliang Heart Sutra" on the top shelf, then made a deep bow to the Wuliang Heart Sutra, as a gesture of gratitude.

The Wuliang Ancestral Master indeed was a remarkable person to record his Cultivation Technique in such a way; it's truly incredible when you think about it.

Ling Zhenfei sat on the ground, looking at the Wuliang Heart Sutra on the wall, remembering how each character was written in his mind.

After genuinely writing it down, Ling Zhenfei truly understood the subtle changes, which were indeed varied and complex.

The shifting brushstrokes of each character could be expressed with a dagger, a sword, or any weapon.

Though Ling Zhenfei wasn't certain all his research was correct, he immensely benefited from it and could be said to have soared high.

Knowing there's no further use for the cave, Ling Zhenfei's methods decoded the Wuliang Heart Sutra.

Even though his decoding methods differ from those of ancient sages, it could be considered an innovative approach.

Ling Zhenfei stood at the mouth of the cave, then flew down from above.

Ling Zhenfei floated gently to the ground, promptly catching the attention of onlookers.

The people were guardians of the cave.

Seeing Ling Zhenfei descend from the highest cave naturally astonished them.

Ling Zhenfei asked one of them, "How many days was I inside?"

Before the person answered, another voice spoke behind him, "You've been inside for twenty-three days."

Ling Zhenfei turned to see the speaker was Murong Liuqing.

Murong Liuqing wore a white robe, holding a flute.

But the look in his eyes at Ling Zhenfei was more amazed.

Ling Zhenfei nodded, "Only twenty-some days, impressive."

After speaking, Ling Zhenfei turned to leave, but Murong Liuqing spoke again.

"Our Palace Master wishes to see you."

Ling Zhenfei paused, asking, "Your Palace Master? The Palace Master of Wuliang Palace?"

Murong Liuqing replied, "Yes, the Palace Master is also my mentor."

Ling Zhenfei nodded, then under Murong Liuqing's lead, exited the Wuliang Book Tower, heading to the hall at the peak.

Wuliang Mountain is a Cultivation Sect, with the great hall at the peak known as Wuliang Immortal Palace, one of the Three Great Immortal Palaces.

In it lies the core secrets of Wuliang Mountain. Under Murong Liuqing's guidance, they soon arrived at the entrance of the Wuliang Immortal Palace's grand hall.

Ling Zhenfei asked, "Why is the Palace Master looking for me?"

Murong Liuqing said, "How can I dare question my mentor's affairs?"

Ling Zhenfei nodded, "That's indeed strange."

Murong Liuqing remained silent, leading Ling Zhenfei straight into the Wuliang Immortal Palace.

At the entrance, Murong Liuqing nodded to the servants, and after a while, was notified he could enter.
