Chapter 48 Casting
Chapter 48 Casting
Three days later, at the Binhai City Drama Academy.
The audition was held in an empty classroom at the academy.
Students and extras lined up for auditions.
When the news was released, many people heard that it was just a "broken game developer" casting actors, and those with even a little bit of fame immediately rejected it.
You can't blame them for this, after all, the reputation of movies and games is really bad, every movie they make loses money, and the salaries of movie and game actors are even lower, about the same as those of extras.
Those who remained were mostly students with few resources.
Regardless, this is a job opportunity, and what if the game becomes a hit?
"Next."
Ren Wei rubbed her slightly sore temples. They had auditioned more than thirty people for the role of Xiao Tu, but none of them were suitable.
Either they overact, turning an undercover agent into a stoic killer, or their eyes are vacant, making them completely unable to keep up with the scene.
The casting for the other roles went surprisingly smoothly.
Fang Min's purity and stubbornness, and Mutou Junko's innocence, both found perfect matches among students from various universities and extras.
It's worth mentioning that the actress playing Fang Min is none other than Lin Wan, an old friend of Tangren Games and a family member of one of their employees.
It wasn't that the two of them gave her special treatment. The casting process for this role was just as difficult as Xiao Tu's, and the trouble even reached the other team. Lin Chen mentioned it to his sister during a break, and after Lin Wan read the script, she volunteered herself and successfully landed the role after an audition.
The casting for the equally important female character, Zhuang Xiaoman, remains undecided.
This character is a high-ranking agent of the Kuomintang's Military Intelligence Bureau, charming yet ruthless, like a black rose with thorns.
The actors who came to audition were similar to Xiao Tu's group; either they only had a worldly air but no murderous aura, or they only had coldness but couldn't portray that captivating charm.
Just as the two were at their wits' end and preparing to return to the company to review another batch of resumes, Ren Wei suddenly put down her coffee cup and looked at Tang She:
What do you think of me?
"puff--"
Tang She spat out the mouthful of water he had just drunk. He stared wide-eyed at the "young lady" in front of him, who was usually so energetic and impulsive, and who was wearing a plaid shirt and canvas shoes.
"Senior, stop fooling around. Zhuang Xiaoman is a charming and alluring female agent, what you're doing..."
Tang She looked Ren Wei up and down, swallowing back the words, "You're too lazy to even put on makeup normally."
Ren Wei raised an eyebrow but didn't speak. She stood up abruptly, unbuttoned the top two buttons of her plaid shirt, tossed her casually draped hair to one side, and her eyes instantly became languid yet dangerous. Wearing canvas shoes, she walked with the swaying grace of someone in high heels, step by step, towards Tang She.
She leaned down slightly, her red lips close to Tang She's ear, her voice low, husky, and teasing:
"Little brother, in this chaotic world, you can't judge a book by its cover."
In that instant, Tang She felt the hairs on his neck stand on end.
This isn't the same senior student from before.
This is practically the same Zhuang Xiaoman, the ruthless woman who killed without blinking an eye in Shanghai's bustling metropolis!
Tang She swallowed hard and shrank back. He had been so busy these past few days that he had completely forgotten what had happened at Ren Wei's house.
Her acting skills are incredibly versatile.
"Senior...no, Mr. Ren, can we take this role?"
But she shook her head and stared at Tang She.
"It's not impossible for me to act, but in that case, you'll have to play the male lead."
Tang She was taken aback by what she heard, but assumed that his senior didn't want to have too much contact with people in the entertainment industry.
"Didn't we make an appointment with Mr. Chen? He has a good reputation, let's see how his acting goes."
Ren Wei shook her head. She was willing to act in this drama not only because of her feelings for that period of time, but also because she wanted to bridge the gap between Tang She and herself. If Tang She couldn't play the male lead, then she had no interest in playing a villain.
Soon, the two arrived at a coffee shop, where the man named Chen Sheng was already sitting and waiting.
Although he was over 30, he looked only in his early 20s, about the same age as Tang She. Despite being a celebrity, he didn't wear sunglasses, a mask, or any other props that could conceal his identity.
Because he's really not popular, he's always played supporting roles and has never really broken out of the mainstream. Even if someone recognizes him, they're not really interested in talking to him.
Seeing the two enter the coffee shop, he shook hands with Tang She very sincerely, and then handed the script back to Tang She with both hands.
"I've read your script, and to be honest, I really want to play this role. However, I've already signed a contract with another production team, and the penalty for breach of contract is an amount I can't afford. So, I'm very sorry, but I hope we can work together again sometime."
Chen Sheng's sincerity surprised Tang She, who knew that Chen Sheng was not a local of Binhai and had flown in from out of town.
Given his financial situation, he might even have come by high-speed rail.
The fact that the two people met only to apologize shows that they really liked the script.
Ren Wei's eyes, however, were slightly upturned, as if to say, "See? There's no last possibility left. Now you're the only one who can play Xiao Tu."
But Tang She really didn't have much self-confidence, because he had never been involved in anything related to acting since he was a child.
If we have to categorize it, playing the senior's boyfriend and the undercover agent for Tangren Media could be considered performances. However, both performances were quickly exposed by Ren Wei and her father.
But that's something we can talk about later. Seeing how cooperative Chen Sheng was, Tang She simply said:
"We don't know your availability, but it's great that you still have time to come here and talk to us in person. You really love this role. The other supporting roles haven't been cast yet, so why don't you just have a cameo role in it? We'll film your scenes first, so it definitely won't interfere with your schedule."
Upon hearing this, Chen Sheng was taken aback. The reason he was interested in the script was simple: his grandfather had been an underground worker, so he really wanted to take on the role.
However, even if he couldn't play the role, a cameo appearance would be nice. Chen Sheng gladly accepted Tang She's invitation.
Ren Wei, still all smiles, subtly tapped Tang She's foot under the table. Tang She pretended nothing had happened and continued discussing the script with Chen Sheng. Seeing his lack of reaction, Ren Wei couldn't resist any longer. She leaned closer to Tang She and whispered:
"So? Are you going to play Xiao Tu or not? If you don't, there really isn't anyone else you can choose."
