Chapter 58 Mrs. Giraman did not believe
Chapter 58 Mrs. Giraman did not believe
Caitlin encountered a very awkward situation.
She found herself at a loss for words when she and Jinx knocked on the door and met Scarlett Giraman, because she had recently reunited with her mother.
Perhaps I should be excited?
After all, something happened at Jing Shui Prison, and she was clearly heading there, so she would definitely be the first person law enforcement officers to identify as "missing".
It's understandable that the mother and daughter were a little excited after being reunited following their disappearance.
But the same scenario played out just this morning.
Caitlin really has a hard time getting emotional and making herself look excited...
Fortunately, Mrs. Giramann was also caught in this predicament.
Looking at her daughter, who was covered in dirt and still clutching a rifle, Mrs. Gilamann was still caught off guard by the quick end of the "disappearance case," even though she had a vague feeling that her daughter would be alright.
The council vote had just ended when Jayce led the law enforcement officers into Zaun.
Caitlin returned home unharmed shortly afterward.
Could it be that Jayce is just too efficient?
Surely Caitlin couldn't have been deliberately trying to amuse herself!
"Ahem, Auntie."
Jinx finally broke the awkward silence.
"Kate and I might need your help with a small matter, it's about... oh yes, please wait a moment!"
Jinx was just about to voice Caitlyn's earlier suggestion to tell Mrs. Giramann part of the truth and then have her use Parliament to exonerate the three of them when she suddenly stopped—
She and Caitlin hadn't changed their shoes yet.
"Here, for you."
Jinx is now quite familiar with Caitlin's family, so she naturally changed into slippers in the cloakroom by the door and tossed Caitlin's light blue pair to them.
Just as she was about to continue speaking, she suddenly noticed Mrs. Gilamann's meticulous hairstyle.
"Sorry, sorry, please wait a moment."
Jinx quickly grabbed the stunned Caitlin and ran to the bathroom.
She knew that the nobles of Piltover had many rules and couldn't stand seeing the two of them looking so dirty, so it was best to tidy them up first.
After all the tedious procedures were over, Caitlin and Mrs. Giraman had almost calmed down.
Mrs. Giraman was sitting on the sofa in the living room. When she saw Jinx coming over, she smiled and waved, gesturing for Jinx to sit next to her.
"You did much better this time, you're much more polite now."
Mrs. Giraman gave Jinx a kind compliment.
But before the smiling Jinx could finish speaking, she immediately turned serious and looked at Caitlyn:
"Caitlyn Giraman, you are a law enforcement officer, and it is your duty to maintain the safety and stability of Piltover."
"What happened to you today? What did you do? And what do you want me to do for you now?"
"Say these things yourself; don't let someone else do it for you."
The temperature in the living room visibly dropped rapidly after Mrs. Gilamann's words.
After a day full of thrills, Caitlin, who had just relaxed a little, suddenly tensed up again.
She straightened the hem of her trousers and then sat down seriously in the seat opposite her mother.
The look on his face was exactly the same as that of Mrs. Giraman across from him.
"Mother."
Caitlin took a deep breath.
"Jinx, Aaron, and I were attacked by unidentified assailants when we went to Quietwater Prison to interrogate witness number 516."
"The situation was that the three of us were walking on the fifth-floor prison ward, and then..."
Caitlin maintained a serious expression and a calm tone, meticulously describing everything that had happened in Stillwater Prison that day, except for the events leading up to the appearance of the Shadow Mech.
As for how the three of them escaped danger, and how she ended up safely at home, Caitlin selectively glossed over the details.
She simply said, "The situation was critical. We only heard something extremely destructive appear, and then we lost consciousness."
Jinx is quite meticulous.
While Caitlin was recounting the story, she kept a close eye on Mrs. Giraman's expression, worried that the other woman might discover something amiss.
But even after Caitlyn said, "Aaron is receiving treatment in Zaun because of his serious injuries," and then shut her mouth to wait for a response, Jinx still couldn't get anything out of Mrs. Giramann.
It just goes to show how valuable veteran politicians are; keeping their emotions in check is simply a basic quality they possess.
Seeing that her mother didn't react for a long time, Caitlin didn't dare to say directly, "Could you use your position to help us clear our name of any possible suspicion?" She could only exchange subtle glances with Jinx.
In the past, the persona she presented to her parents and friends was always that of a headstrong young woman who hated evil and insisted on procedural justice.
Caitlin herself has become aware of the change in her mindset and is willing to accept it.
But she worried that her mother wouldn't be able to accept it, or even be willing to do anything for them...
"You want to get me off the hook, is that it?"
Eh?
Caitlin was startled, never expecting her mother to see right through her thoughts.
Now, she became the one whose expression changed drastically, stunned and unsure how to answer.
However, Mrs. Giraman clearly did not intend to wait for Caitlin to admit it herself.
After taking in the expressions of Jinx and her daughter, she seemed to know exactly what they were thinking, and shook her head as if she were amused and exasperated.
"Caitlyn, I thought it would be a big step forward for you to learn to use the right lie at the right time."
"I didn't expect you to be unable to even make up a decent lie."
"I'm not..."
"Alright, listen to me."
As she spoke, Mrs. Giraman took control of the conversation and began to recount the events of the evening in her own way:
"I think the real situation might not be that complicated, right?"
"You used my name to release an insignificant prisoner, and then something went wrong, forcing you to resort to force."
"Although I don't know what methods you guys used to turn half of Stillwater Prison into ruins, I guess it was Aaron who did it, right?"
Mrs. Giramann had an expression that said, "I saw it all along." Instead of blame or resentment, she looked rather pleased and proud.
"I knew I hadn't misjudged him."
"To be honest, the Jing Shui Prison incident can be a big deal, or it can be a small deal."
"He's staying in Zaun now, probably trying to hide those extremely destructive methods. And you came to Piltover to find me, obviously to get yourself exonerated."
Mrs. Giraman stood up confidently and waved her hand.
"Alright, girls, you should go back to your rooms and rest. You don't need to worry about the rest."
"No one will accuse you of any crime, don't worry."
After saying that, she muttered something like, "Aaron is indeed a promising child," and disappeared at the end of the living room corridor.
"Um, Kate, is your aunt a little...?"
Jinx shrank back and whispered to Caitlyn.
She then tapped her own head, the meaning of which was self-evident.
"..."
Caitlin did not reply.
The expression on her face was priceless; it was as if she felt both her mother's acceptance and warmth, yet was also anxious and frustrated by her mother's disbelief.
Finally, she gritted her teeth, got up, and was about to catch up with Mrs. Giraman.
"Walk!"
"I have to tell my mother that the law enforcement officers are rotten to the core; they are completely untrustworthy!"
"If she still doesn't believe me, then I'll..."
Caitlin paused, her gaze slowly falling on the Hextech rifle she had never put down.
"Hey, don't be impulsive! What are you trying to do?!"
Jinx was startled by Caitlyn's intense reaction.
She quickly grabbed Caitlin's arm, the bombing from nine years ago flashing through her mind.
At that time, flames soared into the sky, and her strongest support, Vander, was the very person she had personally...
"What are you thinking about?"
Caitlin interrupted Jinx's reverie.
She rolled her eyes and explained, hands on her hips:
"What I mean is, if Mother still doesn't believe me, we should be prepared to personally find the murderer among the law enforcement officers."
"Oh my god, that scared me! I thought..."
"What did you think?"
"It's nothing, it's nothing!"
