Chapter 75 Mysterious and Unpredictable

"Let's go check out the security room; maybe we can find other clues there."

After thinking for a moment, Li Wei offered a suggestion to Gordon.

"I've arranged for officers to be there, but if you'd like, we can go over and take a look."

Gordon nodded, which was an agreement to Levi's suggestion.

The two entered the security room, where the screen was playing back footage from inside the elevator.

In the video, a waiter stands at the elevator entrance with a formulaic smile on his face.

The mayor, who was completely covered up, stood at the door, wearing a huge top hat, making it impossible to see his expression.

He kept his hands in his pockets and didn't make a sound.

"Play this video again."

Li Wei said to the two police officers beside him, "Slow down this part when the mayor gets out of the elevator."

The two officers did not immediately comply, but instead looked at Gordon.

They were the officers in charge of technology, and they didn't have the same level of respect for Li Wei as the others.

"Do as Mr. Li Wei says; his words are now my orders."

Gordon was embarrassed by the officer's hesitation and blurted out these words.

Li Wei simply smiled at this little incident and made no other comment.

After all, he wasn't some chosen one of destiny; he couldn't just unleash his domineering aura and have everyone he met bow down to him.

Gordon watched the video over and over again, and he was getting a little impatient. Just as he was about to ask Levi what he had discovered, he saw Levi stand up.

"Look here," Li Wei pointed to the screen. "After the elevator reached the 18th floor, the mayor walked straight out, but judging from his gait, he seemed a little angry."

Does that mean the mayor knows this person in the room, and that this guy brought the mayor here to ask him to do something very difficult?

Or rather, the mayor disliked the people in the room, but had no choice but to come.

Levi's analysis gave Gordon a glimmer of hope. "Dude, do you have the answer in your mind? Tell me quickly."

Li Wei did not answer Gordon's question immediately, but instead glanced casually at the two police officers in the security room, the meaning of which was self-evident.

"Alright, buddy, now you can talk."

After confirming that the security room door was closed, Gordon gestured for Levi to continue.

"There haven't been many people who have made the mayor act strangely lately."

Li Wei said, "But Maroni is one of them, because the mayor didn't even bother with formalities and clearly sided with Maroni."

I think there must be some reason for this, such as something that could remove him from the throne.

If the mayor were to meet with Maroney today, his behavior would be perfectly normal.

But there are still some doubts I don't understand, namely Maroney's motives. Killing the mayor doesn't seem to benefit him at all.

Levi's analysis silenced Gordon as well. It perfectly matched the mayor's behavior, but as he said, motivation was a question.

After analyzing the situation without gaining any substantial insights, Li Wei decided to put it aside for the time being.

"Have you checked the surveillance footage around the hotel?" Li Wei asked.

"It's already been checked," Gordon nodded. "We'll have them pull it out."

He opened the door and let the two police officers in, gesturing for them to retrieve the surveillance footage from the hotel entrance.

Soon the screen switched to a scene at the hotel entrance, where a tall man walked out of the hotel, wearing a large trench coat that covered him up completely.

He got into a black car without license plates, and after the car drove away, it disappeared into the blind spot of the street corner's surveillance cameras.

From the camera's angle, all you can see is that he is tall and strong; nothing else is visible.

Just as Li Wei was about to take a closer look at the surveillance footage, the screen suddenly went black, and then he couldn't see anything anymore.

"What's going on?"

Li Wei looked at the two police officers, his eyes questioning.

The sudden turn of events startled the two officers, who then broke out in a cold sweat.

The surveillance camera malfunctioned right under their noses, and now they're in no position to explain themselves.

"Chief, Mr. Li Wei, we don't know what happened either..."

The officer quickly explained, "As you can see, we didn't do anything except check the surveillance footage..."

The officer's words made Li Wei frown. That's the problem with the Gotham Police Department; almost all the officers have ties with gangs, so he simply can't trust his officers.

Just as he was frowning and deep in thought, he suddenly remembered that some of the videos had been damaged before, so it seemed that the two police officers were less suspicious.

After all, even the most foolish person wouldn't destroy evidence in front of others.

Li Wei's words were like a pardon to the two police officers, who quickly began their investigation.

He looked completely dedicated and hardworking, a far cry from his previous unruly demeanor.

The investigation was completed quickly. The officers carefully took a hard drive from the cabinet and began explaining to Levi and Gordon.

"Chief, Mr. Li Wei, this hard drive has been fitted with a self-destruct device. It will automatically incinerate after a certain time."

Li Wei took the hard drive and examined it carefully, discovering that there was indeed an inconspicuous little device next to it.

"So, is it possible to recover the data here?" Li Wei asked the two of them.

The police officer had made his point very clear, and Li Wei didn't have any good solutions.
