Chapter 322 - 321-
Chapter 322 - 321-
Grey did not say much, but he looked at the captain with a slightly expectant gaze. Seeing his gaze, she was stunned for a few moments before regaining her clarity.
"Alright, little Grey, we can finally do what we came here for," the captain said and pointed at the six suns in the bright red sky.
Their existence illuminated the whole world and the giant crystal palace, dyeing it in different colors of the rainbow.
When Grey saw the captain pointing at the six suns, he understood what she was talking about. In the Soul Ascendancy realm, these suns were manifestations of their inner realities.
Meaning that each sun was a world. Grey had seen one of the worlds of this expert—that place full of endless snow. When Grey had been there, he thought it was a part of the crystal palace. But it was only when he was isolated from the Captain and Roxanne that he realized what it truly was.
Even then, the power of the reality was already failing, and it was close to diminishing. Its presence could not rival its former magnificence.
The prospect of the captain obtaining one of the suns in the sky was very enticing, and Grey wanted to see how she would do it. After all, this was the inner reality of a Soul Ascendancy realm expert.
These worlds were manifestations of their powers upon the world. Even though the expert was dead, taking away one of his realities was a seemingly impossible task.
And once they died, then maybe the expert who was trying very hard to revive himself would completely die.
Grey was not sure, but he had a guess that if an integral part of a reviving person was taken, then his plans to come back to life would surely fail.
Meaning that the expert would surely place countermeasures against this sort of thing happening. So that even if they were able to invade his sea of consciousness and appear here, taking away one of his realities would not be possible.
"Here we go..." the captain said and rubbed her hands vigorously. She had a large grin on her face, but inwardly, her heart was laced with fear and anxiety.
When hearing that the process was about to start, Roxanne looked over and went to stand close to Grey. She looked at the captain with a curious and indifferent expression.
Soon afterwards, they saw the captain bring out a small statue. The moment Grey and Roxanne saw this statue, they froze. The scene of the captain summoning a near-god being using a statue like this was still fresh in their minds.
If she wanted to do something like that again, Grey would surely run for his life and abandon this whole plan.
Why? Because divine entities were unpredictable. Even the last time they summoned one, ’she’ only looked at them once before going to fight against the giant halberd.
After swallowing a piece of metal from the halberd, ’she’ was torn into pieces, but in the end, she managed to escape—without even giving them a second glance.
Grey was not sure if the captain had already made a deal with that entity before she summoned it. And frankly, he did not want to know. The captain must have promised it something extremely valuable. If not, her act of summoning could have backfired on her.
Seeing their frozen faces, the captain’s smile widened, and she even gave a small laugh before throwing the statue up into the air.
Strangely, when it reached a certain height, the statue stopped accelerating upwards and hovered in mid-air. Very soon, it was joined by several other items that the captain threw up as well.
After this, the captain looked at Grey and Roxanne and said, "Give me anything on you that has divinity. The stronger, the better."
Grey saw the wild smile on the captain’s face and wanted to throw the piece of cloth containing divinity to her, but after remembering his deal with it, he decided against it.
If he was not with it, Grey was afraid that the piece of cloth would attempt to sabotage the captain’s plan. Hence, he shook his head, signaling that he did not have anything with divinity on him.
The captain did not say anything and only looked at Roxanne.
Roxanne went silent for several long seconds before bringing out several items from her sleeves. Each of these items contained strong divinity, and together, the divinity they brought out was overwhelming.
The captain’s smile grew even wilder as she sent the items containing divinity up toward the others. After doing this, she brought out a few more items and laid them on the ground.
With these items, she formed a complicated circle around her that was filled with spirituality. When all this was set, the captain turned to look at Grey and said softly,
"Have you ever heard a chant to summon the powers of a deity?"
Grey thought her question was a little absurd. After all, nobody prayed to any god, even though they were at the pinnacle of the world.
A god was not good in the traditional sense. To them, no such thing as good or bad existed—there was only preference, and they would do anything that aligned with their goals.
If they needed mortals for their plans to succeed, then they would not hesitate to use them. To a god, there was no such thing as pride or ego. There was only the cold and indifferent mask on their face.
Grey slowly shook his head in response to Violet’s question. He pretended not to know and waited for her to speak.
"In Zwangu, there are many beings that pose as gods. But only very few of them have ties to mortals. If a god can be said to be ’friendly’ toward a race, then if that particular race prayed to that god, they might receive that god’s blessings."
"But note, there are very few races that have connections to gods. These races are not small either... when you explore the world more, you will naturally find out. What I wanted to say is this... a god can listen to the prayers of a particular race, and if they are lucky, then the god may bestow them with blessings."
Grey quickly understood what the captain was saying. "So you’re saying that you want to pray to a god to obtain its blessings?"
The captain’s wild smile appeared again. Grey could see madness on her face.
"But there are no gods that are friendly toward the human race. In fact, there are no gods that are friendly toward any race in this part of the world!" Violet said.
"If that’s the case, then aren’t you afraid of contacting a god that might kill you because you are from a different race?" Grey asked quietly. He could feel that the captain’s madness this time was even greater than before.
Every time she wanted to do something big, the level of madness she displayed always surpassed the last. Even now... it was no different.
"Oh, that’s where you’re wrong, little Grey. I’m not using my identity as a human to pray to the god... I’m fooling it into believing that I’m from its race and want to obtain its blessings!"
Grey saw the madness in the captain’s eyes shine even brighter.
She then laughed and activated the circle beneath her feet. The moment he saw her actions, Grey shivered and wanted to escape far away.
The captain was just too crazy!
However, Grey had not managed to run even five meters away when he felt his entire body turn cold. This cold was not the same as that of a cold place—this cold surfaced from intense fear.
From the circle of spirituality, Grey felt a cold gaze lock onto them. This gaze had no emotion and was filled with indifference. It scanned the captain and Roxanne with a single glance before focusing on Grey.
But instead of scanning past him like it did with the captain and Roxanne, the gaze remained on him for a few more moments, as if trying to discern something. But very soon, Grey felt the power of the crystal surge and fill his entire body.
A second later, the gaze swept past him as if its previous focus had been nothing more than an illusion. After scanning through all of them, Grey heard squashing sounds.
As if something was stepping on flesh and bone, crushing them under its feet. At the same time, the sound of crunching echoed in the air.
Suddenly, Grey heard the sentient spirit inside the scythe speak with pure fear:
"T-this is a... thi-s i-is... a real god!"
Inside his storage ring, the piece of cloth containing divinity distorted and formed several shapes. But these shapes did not last long, as they soon folded back into themselves.
Gradually, a small face appeared on the piece of cloth. This face was like that of a small child, the only difference was that it had no eyes or nose. Golden blood dripped from its eyeless sockets.
This was the true form of the piece of cloth. However, now, it was no longer emanating divinity. The piece of cloth folded into itself and hid from the presence of a true god.
